Illustrations dans les éditions arabes

I guess I have seen the Arabic version  of this series Cedrix.



But the covers look different. The Arabic version was translated by a Tunisian Publisher in 977.

you are right Anne. In fact, Some cities In north Africa have a lot of people with fair hair.... but they are   minority if you compare them with all Arabs.
Cedrix, Have you ever heard about translating ( Arabizing) the illustrations. I have widely discussed this topic with some English-speaking friends. 
The Arab publishers used to be so careful with the contents of children's books. They used Zero tolerance with pictures that convey religious symbols such as the Cross..., or that contradict with Islamic ethics like nudity;Smoking ; Drinking; or even the pictures of the pig ( which is considered impure for the majority of Arabs)....  But recently; publishers turned to be less cautious about this topic. 

Actually, Youcef, I'd never thought about "translating" illustrations ! But it makes sense in places where laws about what you show are very strict... And, although it's still some kind of censorship, it's a way of giving access to these pictures. By the way, is the internet surveyed as well ? Because, with the zillions of pictures available on the web, anyone could see anything...

The laws might be very strict in certain countries but with books that deal  with the forbidden triangle ( religion, women, politics) but when it comes to kids universe and educational products, the publishers should respect the values of the community and the people they address . For example, 99 % of parents would not buy the story of the Three Little Pigs..... as a matter of culture; the pig is not considered a farm animal. eating pork is considered Haram in Islam.SO, do not expect parents, school teachers to be interested in this story.
There is a famous saying in Arab world. the intellectuals often say  that Egypt writes, Lebanon prints and Iraq reads. most of books are printed in Lebanon; which is a multicultural society with the majority of Christians. Sometimes the publishers and the translation committees are not Muslim at all but they are very strict and careful to teach and not to preach.
How about the situation in France; How does it work? what are the  values that the publishers should respect?

I forgot to talk about internet. Recently, the parents play the most important role to protect their children from what they think it is not good for them. so there is no censorship on internet....at least in Algeria. But, The Arab gulf people are still suffering from this problem....especially for political matters.

I would love to read some arabic children's book. Even if I still haven't made much progress with the language.

Can you recommend something? Sree for example has an arabic edition of 'The Famous Five' and I remember that the cover illustration was very different from what I know from Frenc, German or British editions. A little like the pictures you uploaded here...

It is very nice to hear that you are interested to learn Arabic. I can suggest a lot of  series but I need to know your level..Garded reading   and biography books are the best for those who want to ameliorate their language. Here is a well love tales series from Butterfly Books:

Thanks Youcef. I am a real beginner. I had two beginners lessons already. Although languages were always quite easy for me to learn, I realize now that it's getting more and more difficult - especially if you don't speak it regularly... But I'm drifting off the subject.
